Charidy works exclusively with registered nonprofit organizations. That means you’ll need to have a legal entity set up in order to start fundraising on the platform.
What’s a legal entity?
A legal entity is your nonprofit’s official status—recognized by a government body and approved for tax exemption because its mission and purpose are to further a social cause and provide a public benefit. In the U.S., for example, that means you’ve received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS and have been issued a unique Tax ID. Outside the U.S., this might be an ABN, IRD, or another recognized registration number.
This number confirms your nonprofit status and is required to launch a campaign on Charidy.
How to add your legal entity
Here’s how you can set up your legal entity from your dashboard:
-
Log in to your organization account at dashboard.charidy.com.
-
Click the small down arrow next to your organization's name in the left-hand menu.
-
Select Organization Settings.
-
Scroll down and click Add Legal Entity.
-
Fill in all the required fields.
That’s it—you’re all set!
Note: You’ll see a field called "Send Tax Deductible Receipt For Donations." Choose true if your organization can issue tax-deductible receipts, or false if it cannot.
