Adding PayPal as a payment option makes giving easier and more flexible for your donors. You can connect your PayPal Business account directly to your Charidy campaign so donations process smoothly. These same steps also allow you to accept Venmo through PayPal.
How to connect PayPal to your Charidy account
Step 1: Log in to PayPal
Go to PayPal API Credentials.
(You can also find this page by clicking on App Center in your PayPal account and searching for API credentials.)
Step 2: Get started
Click Get Started.
Step 3: Create your app
Make sure the toggle for Sandbox is set to Live.
Click Create App (either button works).
Step 4: Name your app
Choose a name you’ll recognize later, like Charidy.com or Charidy Inc., and click Create App.
Step 5: Copy your credentials
Once your app is created, copy the Client ID and Secret Key.
Step 6: Log in to your Charidy dashboard
Visit Charidy Payment Gateways or click Payment Gateways in your Dashboard menu.
Step 7: Add PayPal
Click Add Payment Gateway and select PayPal (or Venmo if you’d like to enable Venmo donations).
Enter the credentials you copied from PayPal, then click Save.
Important note
If you have tax receipts enabled for a legal entity, PayPal will use the legal entity information you select when setting up the gateway.
As a note, you also do not need a Venmo account to enable Venmo as a payment gateway. You would simply be enabling donating to your PayPal account via Venmo as a payment method.
