What happens if my recurring donation payment fails?
When a recurring donation payment doesn’t go through, you still have options. If your card couldn’t be charged due to reasons like insufficient funds or a temporary card issue, Charidy automatically works behind the scenes to try again and keep your donation on track.
How failed subscription payments work
If a payment on your recurring donation fails, Charidy will automatically attempt to charge your card up to five times, spaced every 1–3 days. This gives time for common issues—like a temporary hold or low balance—to be resolved.
If the payment is still unsuccessful after the fifth attempt, the subscription is canceled in our system.
How to restart your recurring donation
If your subscription is canceled, you can easily restart it by returning to the organization’s campaign page and setting up a new recurring donation.
If the campaign has already ended, you can reach out to the organization directly to continue your recurring support—either through them directly or through a new campaign, if one is available.
Updating your card details
If you’d like to switch to a different card for your recurring donation, you can do that at any time. Once you update your card details, the system will automatically attempt to charge the new card.
