Learn what matchers and mid-level donors are, how they work, and why they’re essential to your campaign success. This guide helps you identify and prepare the right supporters to boost momentum and reach your goal.
Planning your campaign is exciting—but running into new fundraising terms can sometimes feel overwhelming. Don’t worry! We’re here to make everything clear and simple for you.
What’s a Matcher?
A matcher is someone—an individual, business, or foundation—who gives a large gift to your campaign. Their donation is used to multiply the impact of other donors, doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling every contribution made during your live campaign. It’s a powerful way to motivate giving and boost momentum!
What’s a Mid-Level Donor?
A mid-level donor (also called a mid-tier donor) is someone who gives more than the average supporter, but not quite at the matcher level. Typically, anyone giving $500 or more might be considered a mid-level donor—though this can vary depending on your organization’s goals and donor base.
These donors are especially valuable. Not only do they help move you closer to your campaign goal, but they’re also great candidates to grow into major givers in the future. Your Charidy Fundraising Specialist or Campaign Manager can help you define what mid-level giving looks like for your organization and how to reach out to these supporters ahead of your campaign.
Why Mid-Level Donors Matter
Mid-level gifts help build strong momentum during your live campaign. By securing as many of these donors as possible beforehand, you’ll have more control over your campaign’s pacing and energy.
